December, 2017 28 is a perfect number--the sum of its proper divisors. 28 = 1 + 2 + 4 + 7 + 14. SPECIAL ISSUE: DEEP BLUE ARCHIVE This issue of Solstice is
devoted entirely to displaying, in pdf format,
the current state of the persistent IMaGe
archive housed in Deep Blue at The University
of Michigan. The linked file was formed
using Adobe Acrobat Pro and downloading the
archive directly from the university server,
through two levels of links all on the same
path. The downloaded collection was then
edited to remove extra pages for which the
search turned up no results (such as for
co-authors from outside the university with no
independent other entries within Deep
Blue). The original download had 300
pages; the edited version has 161 pages.
There are 460 separate entries in the
archive. These 161 pages show the pages
of the collection as created in Deep Blue;
they do not show the files of articles,
themselves. Rather, they show links to
those files that are already stored in the
persistent archive. So, these pages
represent the collection framework within
which perpetually-maintained files are
placed.

Ulrich's site:
An interesting example of a privately issued electronic journal. As described in the mission statement of the journal, "The purpose of Solstice is to promote interaction between geography and mathematics." Articles are scholarly in presentation, with clear illustrations and charts. A number of the articles are written by the editor; the editorial advisory board lists individuals from throughout the country. Libraries should review and consider adding this to their collection of electronic journals. ML 11-15-1997 Library of Congress Number: G70.23 Dewey Decimal System Numbers: 526, 510. Congratulations to all Solstice contributors. |
