MEMORIES
  • Memories from this first year, are at best, vague.
  • I do remember being in a crib at the end of a room and looking out the window at snow.  It frightened me and I remember being upset by it when I first noticed it (before I could talk).
  • Also, I remember a crib jungle-gym...reach up and pull the rings.  I remember my father talking to me while I was playing with it and not understanding what he said.  Eventually, I recall he said "red" and picked up the "red" ring and put it in my hand.  Same with "blue."  Then, he said "red" and I reached for the appropriate object--he did this a number of times over.  He was pleased.  He called my mother to see it.  By then, I was tired and refused to perform (no doubt much to his dismay).  A lot of conversation between my parents followed (I did not understand it).  But, I did understand "red" and "blue" (but not necessarily that they were general colors...just that they applied to particular rings).
