Press Release Independent–
2nd Ward For
Immediate Release: September 15, 2011 Jane Lumm, Independent candidate for City Council from Ann Arbor’s 2nd Ward, formally kicked off her campaign today with the announcement of the members of her Campaign Committee. The list of members is a veritable “Who’s Who” of leaders from across Ann Arbor’s political spectrum. Named as Co-Chairs of the Jane Lumm Campaign
Committee are Ingrid Sheldon and Leslie Morris. Sheldon,
a Republican, represented the 2nd Ward
as
Councilwoman from 1988 to 1992 and served as Mayor of Ann Arbor from
1993 to
2000. Morris, a Democrat, represented
the 2nd Ward as Councilwoman from 1977-1983 and was the
Democratic
Party nominee for Mayor in 1983. “I’m honored to have the support of
so many distinguished local leaders representing so many perspectives,”
Lumm
said. “I think that they believe, as I
do, that many city office-holders, including our 2nd Ward
representative, do not have the right priorities. Those
officials seem more interested in
representing City Hall to our neighborhoods than in representing our
neighborhoods to City Hall. I hope to
change that.” Lumm previously represented the 2nd
Ward on City Council as a Republican from 1993 to 1998. Sheldon
praised Lumm’s “extensive experience
on City Council, dedication to community service and knowledge of
wide-ranging
issues.” Morris said, “Jane Lumm is a
true representative of the voters. The
only agenda that she will bring to Council is the agenda of her
constituents.” Joining Sheldon and Morris in
supporting Lumm’s campaign and signing on as Committee members are
three former
Democratic 2nd Ward Councilmembers – Robert Faber, Barbara
Bach and
Seth Hirshorn, as well former 2nd Ward Democratic City
Council
nominee Michael Morris. Faber is also a
former Democratic Party nominee for Mayor of Ann Arbor.
Also serving on the Committee is Thomas
Wieder, a former 2nd Ward Democratic Party Chair and former
Vice-Chair of the Ann Arbor Democratic Party. On the GOP side, former 2nd
Ward Councilmen Peter Fink, Joe Upton, Mike Reid, David Kwan and
Clifford
Sheldon have been named to the Committee. Joining
them is former 2nd Ward Republican City
Council
nominee Thomas Bourque. Other well-known Democrats who have
joined the effort on behalf of Lumm include former Democratic
Councilmembers
David DeVarti and Doris Preston. Former Ann Arbor Mayor Louis
Belcher, a Republican, and former Republican Councilmembers Richard
Hadler,
Edward Hood and Jeanette Middleton have also been named to the
Committee, along
with former Republican Council candidate Jeffrey Harshe. Other prominent Democrats named to
the Committee include former Washtenaw County Commissioner Vivienne
Armentrout,
former Democratic Michigan State Senate nominee Peter Eckstein, Ann
Arbor
District Library Board Member Nancy Kaplan, former Ann Arbor Democratic
Party
Vice-Chair David Cahill, former Democratic Council candidate Jack Eaton
and
former Ann Arbor Planning Commission member and Democratic Council
nominee
Ethel K. Potts. Other prominent Republicans named to
the Committee include former Congressional nominee Joe Fitzsimmons,
Washtenaw
Community College Trustee Carey Jernigan, former Ann Arbor Republican
Party
Chair Nancy White and former U.S. Census Director Barbara Bryant. For
