Mr. Jay K. Wheat, aged 90, of Grand Rapids, passed away at home on Saturday, October 10, 2009 with his loving wife at his side. Jay was born on March 27, 1919 in Kingsley, the youngest child of L. Lester and Flora (Starr) Wheat. Jay retired in 1979 from American Seating Company after 29 years of employment. He was a World War II veteran and a member of DAV. Jay was preceded in death by his seven brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen (Hulett); daughter, Maxine and son-in-law, Harry Weimer, who became his best friend. Jay is also survived by six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Jay will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. James Bugg officiating. Interment Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family at the funeral home on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and also on Tuesday beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan.
