Kerwin J. (Lefty) Westveer, age 78, of Grand Rapids, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at Northview Manor. Kerwin was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Doris; brothers, William and Clarence; sister, Josephine Spoolstra. Surviving are his daughters, Debra (Steve) Batchelder, Mary Jo (Martin) Giaimo, Laura (Robert) Bishop; son, Terry (Jane) Knapp; seven grandchildren and four great-granddaughters; brother, Peter (Shirley) Westveer; sister, Dorothy Holtrop; sister-in-law, Helen Westveer. Kerwin was a Korean War Veteran and retiree of General Motors. He was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, his garden and bowling. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2009 with Rev. David Fleming of Hope Lutheran officiating. Interment is at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. For those who wish memorials may be made to The American Diabetes Association.
