Albert John
VanderSloot, aged 89, of
Hudsonville, went peacefully to his heavenly Father Sunday, April 26,
2009. He
was preceded in death by his wives, Deana Schipper VanderSloot, Jane
Vanden
Bosch VanderSloot, and his son, George VanderSloot. Al was the youngest
of six
children, born on May 14, 1919 to Peter and Minnie VanderSloot. Al
served in
the Navy during World War II and was known for his gentle spirit and
love for
children, but most of all he loved his Lord, family, and friends; and
was
greatly loved by them in return. Surviving are his wife, Ella; his
children,
Lola and Abe VanderWoude of Byron Center, Suzanne and Clare Kwant of
Big
Rapids, Roy and Chris VanderSloot of Kentwood; daughter-in-law, Barb
Howarth of
Byron Center; step-children, Jack and Cheryl VanEerden of Vero Beach,
FL,
Marcia and Jim Lyons of Lamont, Roger and Arlyss VanEerden of
Hudsonville, Jack
and Joan VanderSloot, Thomas and Barb VanderSloot, David VanderSloot,
Merri and
Gary Hamm; one sister-in-law, Joyce Bloem of Grand Rapids; 16
grandchildren,
many step-grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, many step great
grandchildren;
many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at
11:00 a.m.
at the Cornerstone United Reformed Church with Rev. James Admiraal
officiating.
Interment Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may meet with the
family at the
VanderLaan Funeral Home Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial
contributions
may be made to Spectrum Health Hospice. The family would like to
express a
special thanks to all the doctors and nurses at Spectrum Health
Butterworth,
and Spectrum Health Hospice, for all the care given to Al.
