Mrs. Evelyn VandeKopple, age 88, of Grand Rapids, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on Tuesday, April 6, 2010. She was a member of Second Congregational Church, U.C.C. for 64 years. In 1939, she graduated from Creston High School. Before her marriage to Richard, she worked at McInerney Spring & Wire. Later, she worked as a receptionist in Dr. Howie and Dr. Orders' office, and finally Evelyn worked for the State of Michigan as a supervisor and interviewer in the employment service, retiring in 1983. She had an excellent work ethic and always wanted to be active. Her family was her life, and she was always so happy when her family was nearby. Up until recently, you would find Evelyn volunteering at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans; and while she wintered in Florida, she was a volunteer at the hospital. She was a member of the American Auxiliary Unit #258. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Richard, on May 6, 2006, and her brother, Charles. Evelyn is survived by her children, Dave and Midge VandeKopple of Belmont, Connie and Dirk Miller of Jenison, Rick and Sharon VandeKopple of Belmont, Daniel and Lisa VandeKopple of Kansas City, MO; 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; brother, Floyd and Lois DeShane; sister, Alice and D.O.
