Mrs.
Gwenevere VanPopering,
age 89, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December
2, 2009.
Growing up near downtown Grand Rapids, she was a shy person who cared
for her
grandmother who lived with the family. Gwenevere met her husband, Henry
while
he was working in the greenhouse across from her home. For Henry it was
love at
first sight, and they were married on June 10, 1941. She became a
stay-at-home
homemaker, wife, and mother. Gwenevere was attentive to her children's
needs,
and they remember her role as a room mother and her daily reading of
bedside
stories. As a family they enjoyed camping in a tent at many of the
northern
state parks. After Henry retired, they liked traveling around the
country on group
bus road trips and also traveled to visit their son, Steve who lived
out-of-state. Gwenevere was proud to be a godly wife and mother, her
greatest
achievement. She is survived by her children, Stephen and Mary
VanPopering of
El Paso, TX, Mary and Steve Ottenwess of Rockford; four grandchildren;
four
great grandchildren with the most anticipated arrival of another;
nieces and
nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, son, Richard,
sisters, Marie, Reba, Eunice, Eloise, and her brother, Bud. The service
for
Mrs. VanPopering will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Pederson Funeral
Home
with Rev. Thurman Rynbrandt officiating. Interment in Chapel Hill
Memorial
Gardens. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider
