Sidney J. Steensma, age 81, of Jenison, went to be with his
Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 24, 2009. He was preceded in death by
his
sisters, Helene Steensma and Letha DeYoung. He will be lovingly
remembered by
his wife of 62 years, Ruth (Brown) Steensma; his children, David
(Barbara)
Steensma, John (Carolyn) Steensma, William (Lucinda) Steensma, and
Linda (Juan)
Salazar; nine grandchildren, Aaron (Lesley) Steensma, Nathan (Julie)
Steensma,
Elizabeth Steensma, Tom Steensma, Sara (Dan) DeVaun, Kelly Steensma and
her
fiancée, Adam James, Rebekah Steensma and her fiancée,
William Baux, Robert
Salazar, and Jason Salazar; and great grandchildren, Caleb and Caitlyn
Steensma, Kendrick and Allison Steensma, and Jalen Salazar. He is also
survived
by his brothers, Leonard (Bertha) Steensma and Peter Steensma;
brothers-in-law,
Norman Brown, Russell (Nancy) Brown, and Marvin De Young; and many
nieces and
nephews. Sid was born to Peter and Bessie (Weeda) Steensma in Grand
Rapids. He
attended West Side Christian School and graduated from Union High
School. He
served in the Army during WWII and worked 42 years for Conrail
Railroad,
retiring in 1987. Sid attended Burton Heights Christian Reformed Church
for
over 55 years and served as elder and deacon. The family would like to
thank
the care givers at Sheldon Meadows for their loving care. The funeral
service
will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Cook Memorial Chapel, 4235 Prairie
SW,
Grandville (East Building). The family will meet with relatives and
friends on
Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Cook Funeral Home,
Grandville
(West Building). Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of
one's
choice.
