Evelyn Mae Steele, age 89,
passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2009 in Grand Rapids.
She was born May 18, 1920 in Conrad, MT to Albert and Fannie Vermulm.
Evelyn
graduated from the Deaconess School of Nursing in Great Falls, MT in
1941 and
from Hope College in Holland, MI in 1944. Evelyn married Rev. Harland
Steele in
1945. For over 50 years, she was active in the Reformed Church
throughout
western Michigan. She was a nurse at the Christian Rest Home and
volunteered at
Hospice and Marketplace Ministries for many years. She enjoyed playing
the
piano and above all, visiting with friends and family. Evelyn was
forever a
farm girl at heart. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband,
Harland, in
June of 1979. She is survived by her daughter, Nikki (Richard)
Steele-Detrich
of Boquete, Panama; son, Mark (Dorita) Steele of Phoenix, AZ; son Terry
(Marcia) Steele of Oshkosh, WI; seven grandchildren, three
great-grandchildren;
and her sister, Helen Davis of Conrad, MT. Memorial
