In memory of Kenneth Root 1922-2009 |
Kenneth Root, aged 86, of Wyoming,
passed
away Monday, August 17, 2009. He was
born October 3, 1922 in Midland County, MI, the second child born to
the late
Oliver and Gertrude (Chaplar) Root. He spent most of his youth growing
up in
Temple, Clare Co., MI. As a young adult he served his country in World
War II.
While in the service, the family bought a farm in West Branch, MI,
where he met
and married his wife, the former Mrs. Flodella (Pepper) Councilor on
February
17, 1951. They moved to Grand Rapids shortly after their marriage; then
moved
to Wyoming in 1956 where they had their only child, Kenneth J. Root.
Ken worked
for Irwin Seating from 1951 until his retirement in 1998. He enjoyed
camping,
traveling, reading, and most of all, spending time with family. He was
preceded
in death by his wife of 41 years, Flodella Mae Root, on August 29,
1993; and
his brother and sister, Walter Root of Colorado and Gretchen Grenman of
Allen
Park, MI. Ken is survived by his son, Kenneth and Chris Root of
Wyoming;
grandchildren, Kenneth J. Root Jr. of Grand Rapids and Joe W. Root of
Kentwood;
niece, Patty Grenman of Allen Park; two nephews; stepson, Herbert and
Irene
Councilor of Arizona. Fr. Edward
Hankiewicz
will officiate over the funeral. Interment Chapel Hill Memorial
Gardens.
Relatives and friends may meet the family at the funeral home on
Thursday from
2 to 5 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart of Jesus
Catholic Church. |
