Elmer F. Postma, aged 83, of Grand Rapids, went home to be with his Lord Tuesday, February 3, 2009. He was preceded by his wife, Mary Jane, baby sister, brother, Cliff, and parents, Frank and Effie Postma. He is survived by his children, Sandy and Jack Pohler, Shirley and Larry Schans; grandchildren, Sara and Chris Mouw, Dave and Katie Zuidema, Julie Pohler, Matt and Shannon Schans, Tami and John Lake, Trevor Schans; five precious great-grandchildren; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Arthur and Audrey Besteman; and many nieces and nephews. Elmer was a WW II veteran of the U.S. Navy. He retired after 36 years from Kelvinator and was a long-time member of Alger Park Christian Reformed Church. Funeral services for Elmer will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Ecko DeVries officiating. Interment is in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Members of the family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Meals on Wheels or Faith Hospice.
