Gertrude Laramy, 89, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, Thursday morning with her family by her side. She has been reunited in heaven with her husband of 55 years, Watson Laramy; her twin sister, Ann (Don) Van Houtum; and her brothers, Herm (Ruth), John (Cora) and Willis Alofs. She will continue to inspire her sister, Martha (John) Ritsema; her children, Lawrence Laramy of Cambridge, Maryland, Sara Termaat, Bruce (Jean) Laramy, Susan (Grant) Cooper all of Grand Rapids; and daughter-in-law, Linda Laramy of Easton, Maryland. She will also be missed by her grand children, Tim Laramy and Molly (Huan) Tran of Washington D.C., Nate (Ali) Termaat, Emily (Dave) Shrier, Amie Laramy, Amanda (Adam) Lube, Megan Cooper all of Grand Rapids, and Lindsay Cooper of Los Angeles, CA.; as well as her great grandchildren, Taaron and Cameron Laramy, Camille and Ella Termaat. Known by those who loved her as Mom, Gert, Gerty, Grandma Great or Rue, Gertrude maintained the enthusiasm of a child throughout her long life and was adored by all who knew her. Quick with a smile and always dressed to the nines, Gert was a graceful presence wherever she went. Our matriarch and friend will be dearly missed. The family would like to thank Pilgrim Manor and the Blodgett Critical Care staff for their contribution to Gert's comfort. Services will be held Monday, March 8 at 2:00 at Third Reformed Church, 2060 Michigan Street NE, Grand Rapids, with the Reverend Dennis TeBeest, officiating. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her memory to Pilgrim Manor at 2000 Leonard Street, NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505, or the Haiti relief fund.
