On October 19, 2009, Frederick J. Kamminga, Sr., age 91, entered into the arms of his Heavenly Father, beholding the glory that awaited him in the Holy City. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Draft Kamminga; his parents, Mary and Elzard Kamminga; his brother, Elwin Kamminga; and his sister, Martha Velting. Fred cherished his loving wife, Ruth Kamminga, who was a blessed caregiver during the final months of his life. He was a Godly example to his children, Sandra and Dallas Parks (Mark, Paul and Connie, and Marisue and Todd Overbeek), Fred and Jackie Kamminga (Jason, Kortney and Holly, Alisha, and Jason Kome) Susan and Michael Verwys (Christian and Jeremy), and Marylou and Chip Bunata (Meredith and Kristin); stepchildren, Tom Van Zee, John and Sue Van Zee, and Nancy and Burt Breuker (Olivia, Grant, and Anneke); as well as six great-grandchildren, Alex, Hailey, Joshua and Gabriel Overbeek, Annalyse and Clara Parks, and Carter Kamminga. Fred is survived by his siblings, Grace Groeneveld, Richard Kamminga, Trudy Kamminga, Norma (Jay) Boone, Margaret (Al) Offringa, and Bernard (Henrietta) Kamminga as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Fred loved to read and recite scripture, sing and listen to favorite hymns, visit with family and friends, and enjoy God's creation, especially on the golf course. The family wishes to thank the medical staff at Spectrum Health Blodgett Campus and Faith Hospice for the wonderful care Fred received in the final months of his life. The Lord's gift of salvation and His faithfulness in Fred's life will be celebrated in a service at Calvin Christian Reformed Church (700 Ethel Ave., S.E.) on October 22, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Robert Koornneef officiating.  If one wishes, memorial donations may be made to Faith Hospice.  Interment at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
