Mr. Richard
O. Jensen, age 88, of Grand Rapids, passed away on New Year's Day,
January 1,
2010. He grew up in Grand Rapids and attended Harrison Park School.
Following
the difficult times during The Depression, he left school and went to
work for
the Civilian Conservation Corp. He later married his sweetheart, Alice,
and
then was drafted into the U.S. Army. During WWII, Richard served in
Central
Europe, receiving two bronze stars. While in the service, Richard was
always
attentive to the needs of his family and sent money home for them.
After the
service, he became a Master Plumber. For over 60 years Richard was a
loyal
member of Plumbers and Pipefitter's Local Unions 70 and 174. He was a
very hard
worker and provided well for them. Most of all, Richard loved his
family and
enjoyed spending time with them. He is survived by his children,
Carolee and
Garry Stephens of Belmont, Richard Jensen of Grand Rapids, Dirk Jensen
of
Greenville, and Jackie and Chester "Rocky" Atkinson of Belmont; 11
grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; his brother, Fred (Betty)
Jensen;
brother-in-law, Lester Curtiss; and nieces and nephews. His wife,
Alice,
preceded him in death. The service for Mr. Jensen will be Tuesday at
11:00 a.m.
at Bella Vista Church with Pastor Mark Debowski officiating. Military
honors
will be under the auspices of the U.S. Army with interment in Chapel
Hill
Memorial Gardens. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to
