Jacob "Jake" Helmus, age 85, of Grand Rapids, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lillian; two children, Maureen (Paul) Sweet and Keith (Sheryl) Helmus of Kentwood; grandchildren, Kristen (David) Bentley of Grand Rapids, Marc (Kathy) Hes of Colorado, Scott (Tikki) Hes of New York, Ruth Helmus of Pennsylvania, Jonathan Helmus of Ohio, and Bethany Helmus of California; sister, Marty (Hank) Demmink of Kentwood; two great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, and several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 16, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at John Knox Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jake's name to Spectrum Health Hospice, 4500 Breton Road, or the food pantry at John Knox Presbyterian Church, 4150 Kalamazoo Avenue.
