Thelma Louise (Haan) Finch entered her heavenly home on
February 6, 2009. She was born March 27, 1921, in Grand Rapids,
Michigan, to
Jacob and Josephine Haan, who preceded her in death. Her loving husband
of 65
years, Roderick James Finch, sister, Doris Crum and brothers, Donald
Haan and
Roger Haan also preceded her in death. Thelma is survived by her
children,
Susan (James) Griswold, Stephen (Sally) Finch, Jeanna Finch, Patricia
(Curtis)
Linscott, Barbara (Daniel) Barber, and Michael (Debra) Finch. She is
also
survived by her brothers, Vernon (Joyce) Haan, Delbert Haan, and Versol
(Lynda)
Haan, and special niece, Norma Crum; grandchildren, Karen (Ronson)
MacLeod,
David (Keisha) Griswold, Beth Ann (Don) Allen, Nathan Griswold, Daniel
(Jessica) Griswold, Eric (Rachel) Finch, Kristin Linscott, Lura Barber
(Ryan
Williams), Leah Barber, and Andrew Barber; great-grandchildren,
Jonathan, Emily
and Jeremiah Allen, Abby, Tristan and Reilly Finch, Maya and Lily
Griswold,
Hunter MacLeod, and Rebekah Griswold; in-laws, Sheila McCue and Alta
Haan; and
many other nieces and nephews. Thelma graduated from Central High
School and
went to work as an Actuarial for an insurance company. During World War
II, she
was a Civilian Financial Secretary at the Navel Hospital at Great
Lakes,
Illinois. Thelma was a member of Wealthy Park Baptist Church for 53
years,
where she served as Office Financial Secretary for 10 years. During the
time
her children were growing up, she was a loving homemaker. Thelma loved
music
and for almost 40 years she was concert mistress of the Grand Rapids
Symphonette Orchestra and played in the church orchestra. After
retiring, Rod
and Thelma spent the next 20 winters in Largo, Florida where she was a
member
of the church orchestra at the New Testament Baptist Church. Thelma has
been a
resident of Michigan Christian Home (Beacon Hill at Eastgate) for the
past five
years. Services will be held Monday, February 9, 2009, at Wealthy Park
Baptist
Church, 2233 Michigan N.E. at 11 a.m. Visitation will also be held at
10 a.m.
at the Church prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers,
memorial
contributions may be made to the Michigan Christian Home (Beacon Hill
at
Eastgate) or Faith Hospice.
