Geraldine DeWitt (Engbrenghof), most recently of East Grand
Rapids. Geri's life on earth ended rather abruptly on Thursday, March
5, 2009
after a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer in January. During her final
weeks, she
was characteristically brave and strong and was able to spend quality
time with
the people she cherished. Vivacious and feisty, smart and resourceful,
intuitive and decisive, creative and artistic, caring and generous,
intelligent
and inquisitive, her life was filled with wonderful experiences. She
believed
in actively following her passions, primarily focusing on her family,
of whom
she was very proud. After retiring from her teaching career, Geri was
blessed
to be able to spend many years pursuing the things that gave her joy
and
fulfillment - friendship, reading, traveling, lifelong learning,
photography,
and all things Japanese. Geri was predeceased by her husband, Jim in
2003. She
leaves behind her loving family; sons, Jim (Linda) DeWitt Jr., Chris
(Sandy)
DeWitt, Tony (Angie) DeWitt; daughter, Cindy (Steve) Allen;
grandchildren,
Fiona (Kelly), Gerrit (Heather), Iain, Roland (Cathy), Mark, Richard,
Rebecca,
Cole and Carly; brother, Lewis (Corinne) Engbrenghof; nieces, Linda,
Jill and
Pamela; very special friends, Jackie Garter and Marion Coppe. A private
internment has taken place and a Memorial Service will be announced at
a future
date at Fountain Street Church. A special thanks to the caring and
compassionate staff of Spectrum Health Hospitals and Spectrum Health
Hospice.
Please consider contributions in Geri's memory to Spectrum Health
Hospice,
Fountain Street Church or GRCC Foundation - McCabe Marlowe House.
