Virginia Gray
(Ogburn) Butrin, aged 91, formerly of Grandville, died in her
sleep on Sunday, July 5, 2009 at Peabody Retirement Community in
Indiana,
minutes before her 63rd wedding anniversary with surviving husband,
Rev.
Charles Theodore Butrin. They met at Wheaton College and were college
professors together until their retirement. Virginia was born in
Richmond, VA,
daughter of Thomas and Virginia Ogburn, and graduated from the
University of
Richmond. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Thomas, William,
Edmund,
and Joseph; and sister-in-law, Dorothy. Virginia was a professional
woman ahead
of her time. She began her career at Wheaton College during the War,
teaching
Math, Spanish, and Greek. Over the years, she also taught piano and
English.
She was a selfless wife, mother, and grandmother and is greatly missed.
In
addition to her husband, survivors include: her two daughters, Beverly
(Jerry)
McCoy, Patti (Peter) Dolan; grandchildren, Tamie Harkins, David Rivera,
DeWitt
Fields, Jonathan Butrin; great-grandchildren, Michael Rivera, Julia
Fields,
Elijah Butrin; sisters-in-law, Madeline Ogburn, Rose Ogburn, Connie
Buturain;
and brother-in-law, John Buturain. Interment was at Chapel Hill
Memorial
Gardens. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at
Peabody
Retirement Community in North Manchester, Indiana. |
