Mrs. Violet L. Burgett, at the proud age of 92, of Grand
Rapids (Comstock Park), passed away Friday, May 8, 2009 at Pilgrim
Manor in
Grand Rapids. She was born on October 2, 1916 to Carl J. and Theresa
Orabelle
(Mixter) Nelson. She graduated from South High School of Grand Rapids,
and
married Kenneth G. Burgett on September 25, 1937. Together they raised
two
children, and owned and operated Burgett Floral and Nursery for 35
years before
retiring. A lifelong resident of Grand Rapids, Violet was one of eleven
children. She will be fondly remembered for her wonderful stories, one
who
loved to play cards, quick wit and great sense of humor. Always with a
quick
smile, Violet often said "If I should die tomorrow, know that I have
had a
good life." Violet is survived by one sister, Elizabeth Scheuneman;
three
brothers, Donald Nelson, Edward (Grace) Nelson and Robert (Pat) Nelson;
as well
as two sisters-in-law, Ruth Nelson and Helen Nelson. She is also
survived by a
son, Lee W. (Nancy) Burgett of La Crosse, Wisconsin and a daughter,
Nancy A.
Butts of Comstock Park, Michigan. Her legacy is her grandchildren,
Randy
(Marsha) Burgett, their children, Tyler Lee and Andrea, Robert (Laura)
Burgett,
their children, Kayla and Tyler Austin all of La Crosse, WI, Mary Beth
(Dan)
Puetz, their children, Andrew, Ryan and Nathan of Rogers, MN, and
William
(Carol) Butts, their children, Lily, Violet and Holly of Rockford, MI.
She is
also remembered by special friends, Don and Gail Palasek, Doug, Kathy
and Alissa
Butts. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth in 1981, her
parents,
Carl and Ora, brothers, Richard, Eugene, Carl and Jack, and sisters,
Mary and
Esther. The family wishes to thank Jamie, Violet's Elders' Helper for
all her
kindness and care these last few months. A Celebration of Violet's life
will be
held 1:00 p.m. Sunday, May 17th.
